TheMexicanDress.com Gets Lots of Questions Every Week
Here are Answers to the most Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do you sell ready-made Mexican dresses and blouses?
A: Sorry, no. TheMexicanDress.com sells only instruction booklets for your own sewing projects. I created my small business because there
were no good options for buying ready-made Mexican Folk Clothing in my region of the world. Why not try sewing
your own dress if you love this style of clothing? It's super easy - perfect for beginners! Or, hire a local
seamstress to create a dress for you!
Q: Do you do custom sewing for customers?
A: As I mention on the
homepage of TheMexicanDress.com, I'm not a professional seamstress and not qualified to sew for others. If you
don't sew, but would love to own a custom-made traditional Mexican dress of your own, here is the advice that has
worked for my customers:
First, try looking in your local phone book for professional seamstresses in your area. If this doesn't turn
up some names, contact your town's fabric shops, quilting supply shops or craft shops and ask for referrals to
any seamstresses who do professional sewing for others. Pick someone local so that you can meet with her and
she can take your measurements. All you have to do is purchase my Mexican Dress instruction booklet, print it out and
give it to the seamstress you hire. She can do the rest, and create a Mexican Dress just for you.
Q: Can you sew my Mexican wedding dress?
A: I'm always so honored when I receive this question. My mother, a professional seamstress, sewed wedding gowns
for many years, and it was a position of great responsibility. I don't have the time or skills to offer
custom sewing for others, but if you look at the question just above, you'll see my suggestions for hiring a
local, professional seamstress to make your Mexican wedding dress. And, congratulations on your upcoming marriage!
Q: Does The Mexican Dress Instruction Booklet work for Plus Sizes?
A: Absolutely! In fact, this style of dress is one of the most elegant a Plus Size woman can choose for herself.
My suggestion is to purchase 60" wide fabric, rather than the more common 45" inch type. This should ensure that you
have enough width of fabric to create the fullness at the fall of the dress that is the hallmark of this graceful
style. Because my Mexican Dress Intruction Booklet is based on taking your own measurements, rather than cutting
out pre-designed pattern templates, the gown fits whomever makes it.
Q: Can I sew a Mexican baby dress with this booklet?
A: My customers have shown me that my Mexican Dress Instruction Booklet is more versatile than I realized! They have adapted it to
sew Mexican dresses for babies, and even dolls! The booklet does not contain instructions for these projects, but if you are handy with
a needle and have some sewing experience, you will quickly understand how this simple folk garment is constructed and can adapt that
for tiny sizes. Special considerations for babies are going to include the neck hole and the sleeves which will need to be much smaller
than referenced in the booklet. So, while the pattern is intended for women and girls, crafty customers can really take it and run with it
once they understand the basic tricks of constructing this classic garment.
Q: Do you sell anything besides The Mexican Dress Instruction Booklet?
A: As a matter of fact, I am working on several new booklets right now! Since my booklet
has met with with such success since I started my small business, it has become my goal to begin
offering new, totally unique sewing and embroidery patterns here as new ideas suggest themselves
to me. Check back soon for great new things for you to create at TheMexicanDress.com!
