Mexican Wedding Dress
Be simply radiant on your wedding day in a simple, traditional Mexican Wedding Dress, created by you from the simplest instructions on Earth!
At TheMexicanDress.com, I have been so honored by the many ladies who have contacted me over the years to tell me they are making my Mexican Dress for their wedding day! Typically, their weddings are going to be simple and informal, and frequently, there is a cultural element to the marriage that makes this dress especially appropriate. Alternatively, the brides-to-be just can't see themselves ensconsed in yards of heavy satin and lace and want something that looks more simple, more hand-made, traditional and breezy. A Mexican Wedding Dress can be a beautiful choice for all kinds of weddings and reasons.
For many years, I have been highlighting customers'
dresses sewn from my Mexican Dress Instruction Booklet and today, a special customer has inspired me to create a whole new page here on
TheMexicanDress.com to feature the Mexican Wedding Dresses that have been sewn from my booklet. I hope you'll enjoy seeing these photographs as
much as I do, and that they will help you imagine what you can do with a Mexican Wedding Dress on your own special wedding day!
What My Customer Said About Her Mexican Wedding Dress:
"I got your pattern and thought you'd enjoy seeing the dress I made from it. My wedding was less than 5 days later so I got to work immediately. I live way out in the country and didn't have the fabric I thought I had for it in my "stash" so I got creative :) happy. Found a very old and very soft 100% cotton sheet --- and dyed it with two different colors I had on hand, crossing my fingers that it would turn out okay :-SS nail biting. The color in the pictures varies but it actually turned out an awesome periwinkle....just perfect! Anyhow, wanted you to see what I was able to accomplish in a short amount of time but let me tell ya, I was embroidering right up until 12 minutes before we left the house for the church! The pattern is great......
I plan to make use of it many times. I love that it can be used for ANY size by using the "measuring formula" you gave. You are a genius for figuring that out."
Sincerely, C. Ash

Just look at what a stunning job this creative bride-to-be did on her Mexican Wedding Dress! I absolutely love her pretty, delicate embroidery which reminds me of African violets, and all the lovely colors they come in. And what a story to think of her embroidering away right up to walking down the aisle! It sounds like the plot of a sweet and funny novel, doesn't it? I'm sincerely wishing this wonderful customer a long and blessed marriage, and I am certain her Mexican Wedding Dress received a hundred compliments on her wedding day.
Have you sewn a wedding gown from my Mexican Dress Instruction Booklet?. I'd love to share a photo of your dress here, and out of respect for my customers' privacy, I publish only photos of dresses, not people. In addition to this incredibly simple booklet making a great starting point for a wedding dress, it would be a very pretty choice for bridesmaids' dresses. In fact, I even had one customer make this dress as her mother-of-the-bride dress. How lovely!
What If You Want A Mexican Wedding Dress But Cannot Sew?
I do want to mention that this is a gown that was meant to be made by beginners. Unlike a regular sewing pattern, there are no paper pieces to cut out. The dress is basically constructed of a few rectangles that are cut based on you taking your own measurements. This simple technique is explained in full in the booklet. And then, you can embroider the dress any way you would like to. As you can see, the above customer imagined her own embroidery design and it is gorgeous! The sky's also your limit in terms of what fabrics and colors you would like to use, from bright white, to soft pastels to brighter jewel tones.
I think it's helpful to share that, with a little help, my two young nieces have both made their own dresses from my instruction booklet. It really is beginning-seamstress-friendly.
But, if that just won't work for you, you can always purchase the downloadable booklet and print it out and give it to a professional seamstress or handy relative who will be able to take your measurements and make the dress for you. As you can see from the above comment, this bride-to-be made and embroidered her Mexican Wedding Dress in 5 days! It really is that easy to make. If you don't know anyone who sews, ask at the nearest fabric store or quilting store for the name and number of a local seamstress. And just picture yourself on your wedding day, resplendent in such a unique a lovely gown. Can you picture it? I can!
